Juan graduated as a Chartered Accountant in Mexico in 1988. He earned an Adv. LL.M. on International Tax Law from Leiden University, The Netherlands in 2002, and a Masters on Mexican Tax Law from a well known private institute in Mexico in 1993. Juan is a certified public accountant and a certified tax specialist from the Mexico City’s Public Accountants Association.
Juan has more than 24 years of experience in the provision of tax advice regarding tax treaty interpretation, cross-border M&A, and cross-border financial transactions. Juan has been an international tax partner with KPMG Mexico from June 1998 to December 2005; Responsible for the KPMG Mexico Desk in New York from November 2003 to October 2005; and from January 2006 to date, Juan has been an independent consultant, an independent member of the Board of Directors of a life insurance company in Mexico and seven Tech companies; off-counsel to accounting and law firms on international taxation; author of several publications, including the book “Interpretation and Application of Tax Treaties in North America” IBFD, Amsterdam (2007) and its Second Revised Edition (2013); and a frequent speaker in International Tax Seminars in Mexico, the United States, Europe (while working with KPMG) and most recently in Canada for the Canada Revenue Agency and in Mexico for the Tax Administration Service. As well, he has been a frequent guest commentator at a prestigious business program on CNN Español from the New York Stock Exchange.
